Cambodia Independence Monument
The Independence Monument is located at the intersection of Norodund Avenue and Sihanouk Avenue. It was built to commemorate the breaking of French colonial rule on November 9, 1953 and gaining complete independence. Completed in March 1958, it is 37 meters high and has 7 floors in total, with 100 snake gods (symbol of Cambodian culture). During the Independence Festival every year, the Cambodian king or representative of the king holds a grand celebration here. Most of the foreign heads of state visited here to lay wreaths[21]。
